09 Sep Legacy Sunday: A Reflection by Bonnie Babin

A reflection by CFSL Legacy partner, Bonnie Babin:
Being a part of Legacy Sunday has been an honor and a true joy for me. Planned Giving is a passion of mine because I have seen firsthand how intentional generosity can shape families, strengthen parishes, and support ministries long into the future. Legacy Sunday invites all of us to reflect on what we want to leave behind and how our faith can continue to serve others beyond our lifetime.
My parish has been the backdrop of some of the most sacred moments of my life. I received many of my sacraments here, and I have watched my children do the same. From joyful celebrations such as my wedding, to moments of deep sorrow like my father’s funeral, this church has been my spiritual home. Most of all, it has been a place of prayer, where I have encountered God again and again.
I love my parish deeply. I love the music, the laughter, the children, and every priest who has served here. I especially love the way our community shows up when someone is in need. Like any home, parishes need care and support to remain strong, and that belief is what led me to include our church and school in my estate plans.
My legacy gift is not a large one, but it is meaningful to me. It is my way of saying, “Thank you, Lord,” for my faith, for this community, and for God’s constant presence in my life. I hadn’t always thought about leaving a gift to the Church, until I realized that someone before me had done the same. My father planned his legacy before he passed away, and through his generosity, I was shown the importance of thoughtful planning and enduring gifts.
I encourage everyone to pray about their legacy, to talk with their families, and to revisit their plans as life changes. Even small gifts matter. Together, they create something lasting, an expression of faith, gratitude, and love for the Church we hold so close to our hearts.
