Mission Moment: Holy Cross Receives Grant for 6 State-of-the-Art Hearing Devices

Thanks to a collaborative effort between the Fr. Willie Todd Foundation and the Catholic Foundation, Holy Cross Church in Morgan City has taken an important step in making worship more inclusive for parishioners with hearing difficulties. The partnership has led to a grant for Holy Cross for the successful acquisition of six state-of-the-art hearing devices that are now available for use during Mass.

This initiative addresses a significant need in the community, as many individuals struggle to fully engage with the readings and homilies due to hearing challenges and the church’s acoustics. The introduction of these devices marks a transformative change for parishioners, allowing them to participate more fully in the spiritual life of the church.

One such parishioner, Thaddeus Marcell, shared his personal experience with the new hearing devices: “Previously, I have had difficulty hearing and comprehending what was being said during mass. This was probably due to some hearing problems and the poor acoustics of the building. Holy Cross has now provided hearing devices, and I am well pleased with these devices. With their use, I can now hear and understand. It’s wonderful to be able to fully hear and understand the reading and the homily.”

The feedback from this parishioner highlights the positive impact the hearing devices are having on the congregation, fostering a more accessible and enjoyable worship experience. The Fr. Willie Todd Foundation and the Catholic Foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of parishioners through initiatives like this one, showcases the importance of community support in enhancing the spiritual journey for all members.

As Holy Cross Church continues to embrace inclusivity, the hope is that these hearing devices will serve as a bridge, allowing all parishioners to fully engage in the Mass and deepen their faith.
